2010 Summer Events

The Join the Journey team leveraged our community presence by participating in several events around Kingston throughout the summer. Check out a brief description of each event, accompanied with photos!

To hear the radio commercials that promoted each of the below events, check out the "media" section of our website.

Launch Event

July 19, 2010

Held at the Kingston Sustainability Centre, the Join the Journey team invited friends, family and community members to come out and celebrate the launch of our event.

KARC Event

July 24, 2010

In order to help promote waste reduction and educate residents about the journey that your recyclables take once they leave your curbside, we hosted an event at the KARC recycling centre on lappins lane. Residents enjoyed tours of the facility, a charity BBQ, facepainting and craft stations, trash sorting challenges, and climbing in the big orange trucks!

22 pledges were collected at this event

Princess St Promenade

July 31, 2010

Supporting downtown businesses, we participated in the Princess St Promenade at the corner of Princess St and Montreal St (outside of the KSC) with our water display and some great prizes for residents that pledged. A total of 202 pledges were collected during this event!

Market St Power Event

August 7, 2010

Amidst many Kingston vendors, the Join the Journey team could be found on Market St promoting power conservation. Our energetic team collected 98 pledges at this event.

Power Pledge in Market Square

August 11, 2010

In memory of the 2003 blackout, the Join the Journey team promoted energy conservation and asked residents and local businesses to turn off some lights, turn down and AC, and participate in the Power Pledge Challenge. We collected a total of 17 pledges at this event.

Movies in the Square

August 19, 2010

Prior to the beginning of "Finding Nemo" being shown in market square, the team set up a display in the square that allowed residents to see the bike trailers we towed around town, and conversed about  waste reduction as well as water and energy consumption. 53 Kingstonians pledged on this night.

Rona Water Event

August 21, 2010

Rainy days don't stop us! Our dedicated team set up outside of Rona on Princess st to promote water conservation and help residents choose low flow and energy reducing appliances and fixtures. We collected 44 pledges this day.

Waste Event in Confederation Park

August 28, 2010

Bluesfest seemed a wonderful event to participate in, celebrating the finale of our summer campaign. Our team set up in front of the tourism office with our waste display and gave away tons of prizes to residents. We even ran out of pledge forms at one point, and had to re-stock for more resident pledges. 86 pledges were collected at this final event.
